"If you want something. go for it" - I met Kat in 2008!

A Guest Post by Bianca

My name is Bianca, I'm 28 years old and I'm a KvD addict.

I first heard of Kat ca 2005/06 when I came across Miami Ink. I immediately liked her and her tattoo skills.
But then I somehow lost sight of her, mainly because I didn't like the Show that much.
She was back on my radar when her time in Miami ended.
Actually I became quite obsessed with her then (read: collecting every pic on the net, her merch, etc etc).

What do I like about Kat?
Everything! From her looks to her laugh, her attitude, just the entire package.
Actually she led me back to art and tattoos, I'm more into it than ever, I always liked tattoos and such,
but now i really LOVE that stuff, it's something deep.

I certainly don't like every decision she's made but I don't have to, cause it's really none of our business.
She is, however, a huge inspiration for me and everyone to believe in yourself, don't care what others may say and just go for it if you want something.

In 2008 me and  my fiancé went lo L.A. cause we've always wanted to visit the US, but my main reason was Kat and at least to take a look at High Voltage Tattoo.
And it all went well, we had an awesome time, visited the shop and I was lucky enough to meet Kat.
The only unlucky thing was- two days after meeting her, our Nikon got stolen. I was pretty devastated since not only my pix with Kat were gone, but also all other pictures from our USA trip.
Bummer!

In a few weeks I'm gonna get her portrait tattooed on me, so I can take her with me everywhere I go.
That's how much I love her <3

The lucky Bianca met Kat von D at High Voltage Tattoo Shop.

Bianca is going to get tattooed very soon. She's from Germany and I am thankful that she's gonna share her expirience of tattooing Kat von D's portrait here.
You can read her all comments around the blog :)
I know all the tech problems she had during these days and that makes this post even more valuable.
If you liked her post , please send her a nice comment to her profile!

writting together

So Eve is stronger than anyone I met, she had to come back to write with me.

"I don't want anybody feels sorry for me, but feels happy. You are my Hero because you made it"

As I told you, the more you cry the less you pee.  And listening Hans Zimmer meanwhile makes me cry because of the music. I don't cry for you no more because I got you for one hour more.
You are in my heart.
Thank you for blessing me.

You are the only one that knows who I am in the blogosphere.

In loving memory of Eve Davenport

I'm typing in black today.

It's a metaphoric way to use black ink to tattoo Eve's name is this blog forever. Is it possible to make an "e-tattoo"? Maybe it's the first one..

I feel blessed being an instrument that helped her to make her last wish happened.
We both know secrets from each other. I know what she specially bought for Kat and she knows my secret plans for the blog.

Eve Davenport ain't going to hold Tattoo Chronicles in her hands neither tweet me back again. Eve's heart has shut down completly tonight.

I'll always remember her strenght and her big smile.
She has all my love and admiration.

This site is entirely dedicated from this moment to Eve and her loving parents. Also, to every single person that took care of her: doctors, nursers, councillors and other patients she related.

I'd like to thank all the people that googled Eve's name to read her guest post.
If you'd like to send loving messages to her family, her Twitter is already working.

PS: OMG Her heart reacted! She's alive!

Eve's mom said: - I read it out to her and just before the doctors told me she was dead her heart had a beat again!  I want to thank everyone for reading eves blog especially kat. Shes being strong and fighting, which all of us believe she'll make it ....
And a special thankyou from my heart to you because the post you wrote such a thoughtful post i read it to her and just before the doctors told me she was going to die in the next few minutes her heart started to beat again. Even though it was very weak she fought through it . Eve has spoken. Eve told me she was going to die in the next few minutes her heart started to beat again. Even though it was very weak she fought through it.
"The best gift anyone can give to me is my life back " Eve Davenport.
And right now 4.00 pm, Eve is writting to me. I've  never been happier of being wrong.

When Kat tweeted me the first time my heart completely dropped!

A Guest Post by @melina_marie

My name is Melina Marie. I'm 17 years old and a senior in high school and also an identical twin!I love drawing and painting & trying out different mediums. I'm also an aspiring tattoo artist.

Kat Von D is a person I've looked up to since I was 14. I've been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil & tattooing has always fasinated me.

From what I remember a while back, watching the first LA ink season premiere commercial I've ever seen, I was so drawn to Kat Von D's beauty & tattoos. I immediately wanted to know who the beautiful, heavily tattooed woman on TV was. Kat Von D opened up the breath-taking tattoo world for me. On LA ink she showed what real tattooing was. It didnt show the negitive reputation what tattoos had, it showed me different. It was the beautiful art on one soul who was lucky enough to carry on them for the rest of their lives. That's when I decided that I wanted to become a tattoo artist when I grew up.Thanks to Miss Kat Von D.

I'm a fan of Kats because she has jaw dropping art skills and tattoos absolutely RAD!

I love Kats connection with people she tattoos. As the client expresses the emotions & story behind the tattoo, Katherine Von Drachenberg is there listening and marking the lucky soul for life all while learning life lessons or helping the client cope or celebrate a landmark in their life. I'm also a fan of Kat because she stays true and honest to herself and her beloved fans. She doesn't care what people think about her and I love that! She changed the negative aspect of what tattoos had. I believe people respect tattoos more & look at them as an art form. Kat shows that if your passionate about something you love, anything is possible.

When Kat tweeted me the first time, I couldn't believe it. My heart completely dropped. I drew a portrait of the shop manager of High Voltage Tattoo, G-Spot. I remember I twitpic'd the drawing to him and he RT'd it and Kat seen it and tweeted me, "Woah you just blew my mind!!!" I was so stunned that my ultimate hero tweeted me that. It meant the world to me! It's so rad to see that she gets out of her way to talk to me through twitter and gives me feedback on my art. Kat is such a humble and sweet person to do that for me.

Katherine Von Drachenberg, hands down is the person I will look up to for the rest of my life. Without Kat, I definitely wouldn't be where I am with my art or even drawing period! All the inspiration she gave me still till this day drives me to explore tattooing and art.

If I had the chance to tell something to Kat in person I would say, "Thank you for being born." Wether she knows it or not, she made a huge impact in my life and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for that.

I would love to thank the raddest blogger of all time of Deepest Ink for including me in this guest post in her blog. Congrats on the 1st Anniversary of your blog & hope there is many more to come! You Rock!

Xoxo, Melina Marie Espinoza.

Melina is a truly young sweetheart. I'm pretty sure she'll become an artist. She has determination and her art is amazing.  Through her art was how I found her: the day Kat retweeted her I could see her work.  - posted below a couple of her portraits-
I am still speachless because it's me who is thankful with these kind words.
If you liked her post, please send her a nice comment to her Twitter!

Everybody wants a piece of Kate Von D

A Guest Post by @ILuvKatvonD (Paul)

How I became a fan of Kat Von D

My first incounter with Kat Von D was in the many tattoo magzines advertising Miami Ink and this lady in the advert looked so beautiful and very different I had to watch. Lucky enough my parents had cable so I was able to watch Miami Ink (Thank god) and I was so amazed that someone had even come up with the idea of a T.V series about a tattoo parlour. I myself had personally been into art & tattoo arts for a while, and to be able to watch great artists draw and design custom made tattoos for there customers was an eye opener, and some of the customers personal stories of why they were getting a tattoo was sometimes very touching, be it a memorial tattoo for a friend or family member that may have passed away just broke my heart.

I have a memorial tattoo myself for my sister who passed away in 2004 due to cancer. But after watching artists on Miami Ink made me realize just how talented they really were, and I think it opened up a lot of other peoples eyes as well, that they are not just a bunch of weird looking tattooed freaks like some people make them out to be! I have more respect now then ever for good tattoo artists.

So there she was part of the Miami Ink team! Kat Von D was tall, cool, long black hair, big sunglasses, big smile, amazing tattoos, and an amazing passion for music Miami Ink was definitely worth watching. But then she left Miami Ink due difficult times with Ami James. So that left me thinking I would never see Kat again, how wrong was I. Lucky enough the producers and T.V company of Miami Ink could see that Kat was a star in her own right and recieved her own T.V show.

L.A Ink was then born! This T.V program has enabled me and others to get to know more about Kat Von D as a person and more about her as an artist, I knew that Kat was a great tattoo artist but I never knew she could create amazing oil painting’s as well. So without Miami Ink & L.A Ink I would be a lot less informed about Kat Von D, and the other great artists connected to the tattoo scene like Kim Saigh, Hannah Aitchison and Corey Miller all tattoo stars in there own right. Having spent some time reading Kats Blogs on myspace (The social network.) It shows the real side to Kat, a more natural and down to earth person which, I really feel that Kat is just like you and me, with a bit of hard ass rock throne in, and artistic talent.

So no matter what you read about Kat Von D in the papers and magazines, which sometimes are lies & not facts, she is simply trying to find her way in the world, and is becoming a more experienced and wiser person. In someways we should look up to Kat and treat her as a role model, that doesn’t mean you need to get a whole load of tattoos, just be open minded about life and take the the chances when they are presented to us. We can all change ourselves to be a better person in many ways.

I really appreciate Paul   for supporting me since the beginning and I could never have enough words to thank that he accepted writting a guest post. We are typing on the same page and it's nice to find out people like that. You don't meet Led Zeppelin fans really often!

He introduced me Eve. He shared many personal facts in this entry. His post touched me and I hope it does to you.

If you liked reading him, please send him a nice comment to his Twitter!

THANK YOU KATHERINE

Eve is currently having tough moments battling with her cancer, but I am sure that when she wakes up she's going to read this from the amazing Kat von D.

The happiness that I feel right now can't be compared with anything. I've helped Eve to make her last wish come true.
Tears are falling.

Evening update: *She's in coma for the next two months but she could say to all of us a "see you later" this afternoon before doctors let her with her dreams of the raddest day of her life. I just wanted to share her happiness here. She send me many messages that I'm going to keep for myself but I want you to read her answer to Katherine: KAT REPLIED I AM THE HAPPIEST REALLY SICK GIRL ON THIS PLANET!
I'm going to miss talking to you.
God Bless you, Eve *

Becoming a fan of Kat was the best thing I ever done in my life

A Guest Post by Eve Davenport

It’s hard to put on paper how you really feel about someone, Kat is no exception. So many things are amazing and unique about her it’s hard to put it on paper because no other words can describe her apart from amazing.

Becoming a fan of Kat was the best thing I have ever done in my life. It all started when my grandpa shouted come and look at this amazing TV show, it has that beautiful lady in it. So I did. It ended up being the start of a lifelong obsession.

When people ask what’s the best thing about Kat I just say everything. She’s perfect in every single way. I looked up to her in tough times and somehow; she would always be able to but a smile back on my face in whatever situation I was in.

I joined twitter and met loads of amazing Kat von d fans. Following Kat and seeing what she gets up to besides tattooing. Listening to her songs of the day is a daily routine for me. The song that probably stood out for me the most would have to be “Come Back” Josh Rouse because I am a big fan of his and it’s amazing to think that Kat chose the song that I love.

Kat has so many admirable qualities. For starters her ability to listen to clients and relate to things that has happened to her etc. It’s indescribable how well she can draw then copy that onto skin and make it 10x better. This is why i think shes one of the best tattoo artists in the world. When people ask; what is the best way to describe an artist? Your answer is Kat von D.

The way I would best describe myself would be; random, quirky, unique, weird I don’t know anymore words to describe myself. One thing I do is not take myself seriously. I don’t care about what people think.

I have quite a few interests most would probably nearly killing myself; sky-diving, bungee jumping, surfing (in case I get eaten by a shark, lame I know). I love drawing, photography, painting anything arty, playing piano and guitar. But the main things I am addicted to are La Ink, Starbucks coffee and scrabble haha.

I’ve travelled all over the world to get a chance to meet Kat and had no luck or just was too nervous to go over. I’ve cleared my bank account buying a present for her. Basically everything on the planet I have done to get a chance to meet her. And I won’t stop until I meet her :) the people that have had a chance to spend time with Kat are very lucky and should spend every second of your time with her like it’s your last.

Kat is a true idol in my eyes and I’m sure; she is for loads of her fans too.

I’m honoured to write this for this blog because I know how much it means for you. I’ve done my best to include everything and I’ve opened up my heart to show you how I see Kat.

I met Eve not long ago.
She reads my blog everyday and makes everybody around her take a look to. But most of all she's one of the most admirable persons I've ever met in my entire life.
I promised her that I'd do my best to to make her wish come true: contact Kat.
Eve is 15 and she only has her present,*not the gift, her future is uncertain (UpdAug30)*

Her blog entry aks for the last chance to meet Kat and finally, Eve got a retweet from Kat.
If you liked her entry, please send her a nice comment to her Twitter account

If all the stars are alligned and you, Kat von D, are reading this entry, you won't regret sending her a loving message.

Celebrating First Year

This is a week of parties!
Well, maybe not parties but a lot of happiness.

The blog celebrates one year next week and due to this special anniversary I have asked some friends to write guest posts. So, next couple of weeks you're almost not going to read me but them.
I have met amazing people this year. Some of them decided to open up their hearts and share their lives for this special occation.
I have no words to thank you!
This experience made me enjoy this project even more.
I felt really excited and must confess that I couldn't wait to share my happiness with the whole world.

It means a lot having positive feedback. Specially because you know there's people out there who dedicate their time to think and create a guest post.
Everyone has their own style. No guest post has been modified. Instead,  I let everyone used their own creativity to write a post that reflect their admiration for Kat von D. This is what the majority of people that comes to a place like this one has in common. Including myself too.
I've specially thanked those "collabos" but I'd not be fair to forget the dozens of people that from time to time come to visit this modest place.

Every step I take encourages me to take another further. I love challenges and while there's people out there, everything will be fine.

Last but not least, thanks for being interested in getting involved and thanks for visiting.

Thanks Google... more about Wondeland Gallery

People living in L.A or visited don't need to keep reading.

Wonderland Gallery is the new platform for Kat von D and it's gonna be open right next to High Voltage Tattoo Shop, on the corner.

What kind of business the previous local was? Unsurprisingly, an art gallery too.

If you ever visited the shop or live in L.A, there's no "spoiler" for you in this post :)

It was called Carmichael Gallery and opened in August 2007, same year than HVT.
This Gallery of Contemporary Art moved to 5975 Washington Blvd recently.
The previous adress  from La Brea appears in promos for exhibitions from July, this year.
Take a look to past shows  or artists and you'll discover really interesting artworks.

I'd like to know if the idea of starting this new project began when the owners moved or earlier.

Nothing has been said about the direction of the project but the Opening Exhibition, by Kevin Llewellyn. He is noticed  for his realistic and obscure works. He has painted NIN, Jeffree Star, Nikki Sixx, Karoline von Drachenberg and Kat von D. So, the circle is completed.

I bet Michael Hussar is probably the next candidate to show there. Because of admiration towards him and beacuse of his book, A Decade, that is going to be released by fall in november. If he's not there, I'm sure it's not because Kat hasn't beg for .

All by now, hope you've enjoyed the reseach.
